A modern villa of 671 m² in Nueva Andalucía, six bedrooms across it, and a house that had accumulated its systems rather than been designed with them. A home cinema that no longer produced a picture. Lighting that had started to fail. A separate remote or app for nearly everything. The owners wanted one house, run from one place: good sound through the rooms, cameras they could check from anywhere and controls plain enough that a visiting guest could work them without being shown how. We designed the systems as one, rather than bolting another remote onto a house that already had too many.
Two of the things we inherited did not work at all. The home cinema had been left in a state where no one could get a picture out of it, and the lighting strips had begun to fail and had to come out. Both had to be dealt with while the house stayed liveable. The harder constraint was the everyday one. A house that often has guests in it gets no grace: nobody reads a manual, nobody rings to ask which app runs the lights. Everything has to be obvious at a glance, and obvious to someone who walked in an hour ago. Simple on the surface, while a good deal of it was rebuilt underneath.
Foundation. We laid in the network and Wi-Fi across the house and put the electrical control on Schneider Electric switchgear, with a door entry system at the gate. That is the part nobody sees, and it is the part everything else stands on.
Capability. Dahua cameras cover the property and record on site, so the owners can look in from wherever they are. Multiroom audio runs through Control4 and plays in every room that needs it. We repaired the home cinema and brought it into the same system, so it now starts from one button instead of a stack of remotes. We replaced the failed strips and redesigned the lighting on a DALI layer.
Orchestration. KNX and Control4 tie the house into one system: lighting, sound, climate and cameras answer to the same logic, with Zennio controls in the rooms. The owners run the whole house remotely. Anyone standing in it can work the room they are in without being shown how.
The owners run and watch the house from wherever they happen to be. Everyone else simply uses it, without being told how. The cinema plays from one button. What had been two broken systems and a pile of remotes is now a single house that behaves, handed over in a month.
